Nonsensical Nonsense Poem

Morning group (1st-3rd grade) Students read aloud the following poem together. Then, students "echoed" as the boys/girls read the poem.

Nonsensical Nonsense
By Elroy Anderson

How far will you fall when you fall asleep?
Could you walk on the bridge of your nose?
Could you ever play the drums in your ears?
Or drive the nails of your fingers and toes?

Could you play ball with the ball of your foot?
Could your blood vessels sail on the sea?
Do you ever feed the calf of your leg?
Or try wearing the cap of you knee?

Could you walk under the arch of your foot?
Could you make hair fat if it’s thin?
If a king wanted a crown of your head ~ Do you think
You would give it to him?

Could your eyeteeth take the place of your eyes?
Could your shoulder blade be on a knife?
How would you shingle the roof of your mouth ~
If you tried for the rest of your life?

Why do you think the author wrote this poem? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Students shared, "because his funny."  "He wants to make people laugh."
