Sorry Wrong Number

What can we see while listening?

Intermediate students listened to Sorry Wrong Number is  a suspenseful play. A woman accidentally overheard a conversation of a murder plot. She frantically tries to prevent the murder.

Students were surprised that it wasn't a movie. (When seeing it on my computer)

Finding Your Way with a Compass

Turn your body until the red end of the needle is in the shed; hence, "Put the Red in the Shed." You are now facing magnetic north.
North at 0/360
South at 180
West at 270
East at 90
TEAM Bldg

Try these quick trips to see if you can make it back to your original spot.
Go 300 degrees for eight steps, then 60 degrees for eight steps and 180 degrees for eight strips EHow
Locate the big dipper to find the north star.

Multiplication Arrays

Hmm, I wonder what 2 X 9 looks like.

Using Arrays to Show Multiplication Concepts:

The different models help students
better understand multiplication.

Use grid paper to show each rectangular array.

Draw the following array
4 X 5 = ___ and 5 X 9 =
Think what 9 X 9 = would look like.

Students will  build an array using math  M & M's (Manipulatives) to make an array show your math thinking. Write an equation to express the sum. Notice that each array is equal.

  • Airplanes
  • Rocks and crystals
  • Dinosaurs

Then take a trip to a museum via the iPad.

Multiplication Arrays

Students can develop an understanding of multiplication by seeing a visual representations of the computation process.

Draw the following array
4 X 5 = ___ and 5 X 9 =

Then use M & M's to make your array showing your math thinking. Notice that each array is equal.
